In a classic piece of political
bullshit the Alcalde de la pueblo de San Francisco signed a city
ordinance into law that would (maybe) pay each "eligible" Black resident
of the city and county of San Francisco $5 million. If....
The
money will be offered as reparations for (alleged) historic
discrimination and displacement. The bill was signed by mayor Daniel
Lurie two days before Christmas after being passed by the Board of
Supervisors. It establishes a legal framework but does NOT allocate any
funding. In theory this will be funded by private money and not by
taxpayer money. In theory.
The city is currently running a $1 billion budget deficit.
The
recipients would be "...individuals who are Black and/or descendents of
chattel enslaved persons and have experienced proven harm in San
Francisco..." It should be noted that California was NOT a slave
state. Ever.
There are about 46,000 Black people living currently in San Francisco would could conceivably benefit from this program.
The
report of the city advisory committee, formally known as the San
Francisco African American Reparations Advisory Committee, also
recommends a guaranteed annual income, housing interventions and rental
assistance, and other freebies to Black people (and only Black people).
It
is estimated that this program, if it were to be enacted with public
funding, would cost every non-Black taxpayer in the city about
$600,000.

I want reparations too from the USA as my ancestors were made indentured servants to qualify for US immigration. I hope the wait isn't long.
