WHERE WERE THE BRITISH LEADERS IN 1936?

This weekend’s Formula 1 race in Bahrain has created a lot of controversy because the ruling family there has been suppressing ‘pro-democracy’ demonstrators. Actually the protests have less to do with democracy and more to do with the fact that the ruling al-Khalifa family is Sunni while the majority of Bahrainians are Shiites.

All of the British opposition leaders in Parliament are calling for cancellation of the race and for British drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button to leave Bahrain and come home.

Where were the British leaders in 1936? It did not bother those leaders one bit that the Nazis were openly persecuting Germany’s Jews. They didn’t call for the cancellation of Hitler’s showcase, the Summer Olympics in Berlin. They didn’t call on their athletes to boycott the 1936 Olympics.

The Brits were eager participants in that Nazi spectacle, thereby helping Hitler’s propaganda machine sell the ‘virtues’ of Der Fuehrer’s National Socialism.

Moral outrage is often scaled to one's personal political philosophy, especially with politicians.
