It’s harder when you are stupid; often shorter too

Early yesterday morning a 13-year old boy and a 15-year old boy died in Stockton by being stupid. That is harsh, but true.
The two boys were in a stolen car driving at a high rate of speed at about 0145 when they were spotted by the CHP. They tried to outrun the cops and the 13-year old driver didn’t have the skill to pull it off. They crashed into a building at Pacific and West Benjamin Holt Drive. Both of the young criminals were killed in the crash. Neither was wearing a seat belt, car thieves often don’t. I guess it isn’t cool.
I am sure the boys family will start screaming like mashed cats. “They wouldn’t have died if the cops hadn’t chased them” will be the cry. I wonder what two kids of that age were doing out at that time in the morning. Was this their first time around the block? That is doubtful. Were they confident their parents would not notice their absence, or would not care if they did notice? Possibly yes, maybe even probably yes.
There are a few things that are for sure. They are young and dead. They destroyed somebody elses valuable property. They paid a very, very high price for being young, stupid criminals. It could, however, have been worse. They could have taken innocent bystanders with them and did not.
