This one is fairly high up on the weirdometer. Walnut Creek (CA) police officer Gregory Thompson, 54, of Martinez, is alleged to have accosted a woman about 0200 hours on August 16. At the time Thompson was off duty, wearing a mask and armed with a baseball bat.

The woman had allegedly run out of gas when Thompson whacked her and her car with the bat. The incident occurred in Richmond on Clinton Ave. near San Pablo Ave, a main drag through town.

The woman started screaming like a scalded cat and the locals called the cops. They then directed the responding officers to Thompson, who was sitting in a nearby car. They found flex ties, two handguns and a mask in the car.

Thompson made bail and has not yet made a statement. He is charged with suspicion of ADW, felony vandalism and making criminal threats.

Thompson is on paid leave at this time and has 30 years on the force. His family owns a house in the area of the attack which has been on the market for eleven days.
