Donell Phillips, 55, was in a
crosswalk minding his own business in D.C. early Wednesday shortly after
having taken some cash from an ATM machine. He was apparently observed
by some miscreants who wanted the money. IN order to get it they
simply ran his ass over, killing him, and then robbed his corpse.
The
incident occurred shortly after 4 a.m. on U St. NW at 12th St.
Phillips was an overnight concierge at an apartment building and was
generally thought of as being a good guy.
The
stolen vehicle used in the crime was recovered fairly quickly. There
are two suspects who were apparently involved in at least two other
armed robberies early that morning. Their identities are unknown.
