From left to right: New York City mayoral candidates Zohran Mamdani, former Governor Andrew Cuomo, and Mayor Eric Adams.
The last major poll out before today's NY mayor's race
shows that Zohran Mamdani may very well win. The ballot is a ranked
choice affair so the predictions can be a little tricky, but there is a
very nice chart out that shows if it runs all the way out to the end
Mamdani will pick up enough of the lunatic fringe votes that he will
edge out Cuomo.
Personally
I find Cuomo to be a disgusting human being. That being said if the
people of New York City actually elect an open, declared socialist
(rather than Bloomberg who was an in-the-closet socialist) they deserve
what happens to them.
In
all fairness I say the same thing about the electorate of California
with some regularity. The legislature of the state is much more liberal
than the voters, some of who are actual citizens and taxpayers. Thing
is they keep on electing very liberal legislators, giving the
Democrat-Socialist party a super-majority in both houses of the
legislature pretty regularly. That group keeps spending taxpayer money
to buy votes, and therefore they keep raising taxes in order to keep
buying votes. Around and around the wheel goes.
EDITOR'S NOTE: This is the Democratic primary. Don't count out Mayor Eric Adams who is running for reelection as an Independent in the general election.

It is also being openly said that Cuomo will run as an independent if he loses the Dem spot. Lindsay was elected mayor as an independent back in the 1970s if memory serves.
