Brian Anthony Browning, 31, was an occasional attendee at
the CrossPointe Community Church in Wayne, Michigan. His mother was a
regular attendee at services there.
Yesterday
he drove rather recklessly to the church and bailed out there, wearing a
tactical vest and carrying both a rifle and a handgun. The security
people who are also church members noticed this. Browning opened fire,
hitting one man in the leg. A church member who happened to be driving
near by ran into the shooter deliberately with his pickup truck while
the church was being locked down. The security people and Browning then
began trading shots. Browning was killed during the exchange, stopping
bullets from at least two security guards. None of the 150 attendees
was injured beyond the initial leg shot to one of the security people.
Browning had no criminal record of any kind but was having some "mental health issues" of late.
