Zohran Mamdani beat Andrew Cuomo
like a rented mule in the first round of today's ranked choice voting
for the Democrat spot in the New York Mayor's race later this year.
Mamdani pulled down 44% to Cuomo's 36 percent making it very likely
(though not certain) that Mamdani, who is a 33-year old self-described
Socialist, will be the Democrat candidate this November. Statistically
that makes it likely (though far from certain) that he will be the next mayor. The current mayor, Adams, has already announced that he
intends to run as an independent. It is likely that Cuomo will also do
so. There will be a decent candidate, Curtis Sliwa, on the Republican
side of that contest.
Could be fun to watch.
