Andrew Cuomo and Zohran Mamdani
Back during the great depression
a political party cropped up in CA. The name was $30 Every Thursday.
The idea was they wanted a living wage paid to working men. It gained
some popularity, to the point it scared some people. A fair number of
businesses had a sign at their employee entrance coming up to the
election stating something like this. IF $30 EVERY THURSDAY WINS THE
ELECTION NEXT WEEK DON'T BOTHER COMING BACK IN TO WORK BECAUSE WE WILL
BE SHUTTING DOWN. They didn't win anything. Whether the signs had
anything to do with it or not I have no idea.
Dagastino's
is a large grocery operation in, among other places, New York City.
The CEO has just announced that, if Zohran Mandani wins the election
next week he will be shutting down. One of Mandani's pet projects is
government owned and operated grocery stores all over the city.
So,
is this legitimate free political speech or a rich guy trying to
protect his turf? Maybe both. right now Cuomo is running ahead in six
of the seven major polls by anywhere from 8% to 13%. Zohran, who at 33
is half of Cuomo's age and who bills himself a a Democratic Socialist,
is a reasonably close second. It will be interesting to see what shakes
out. I would be willing to make a small wager on Cuomo winning, but he
is such a dick it is hard to tell which way the independents will
break.
