The Islamists have hijacked the Arab Spring. President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton were quick to support what they naively believed to be democratic uprisings in North Africa and the Middle East. Obama and Clinton shamelessly abandoned America’s longtime ally Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. They will soon discover that what they saw as a democracy in the making was just a mirage. The Muslim Brotherhood has hijacked the Egyptian revolution and so far only the Egyptian army has kept the Islamist group from seizing absolute power.
The Europeans and the Obama Administration have been only too eager to accept the assurances of the Muslim Brotherhood that it has moderated its goal of subjugating the Arab world under a regime of harsh Muslim fundamentalism as happened in 1979 in Iran. Nothing could be further from the truth and Obama and Clinton will soon find out that the Muslim Brotherhood is committed to the mission of Islam.
After overthrowing the Shah of Iran, the late Ayatollah Khomeini said: “Those who study jihad will understand why Islam wants to conquer the whole world. . . . Islam says: Kill all the unbelievers just as they would kill you all! . . . Islam says: Whatever good there is exists thanks to the sword and in the shadow of the sword! People cannot be made obedient except with the sword! The sword is the key to paradise, which can be opened only for holy warriors!”
A year ago, Khairat Al-Shater, one of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood’s three deputy leaders and it’s candidate for president, said: “The mission is clear: restoring Islam in its all-encompassing conception; Subjugating people to G0d; instituting the religion of God; the Islamization of life, empowering of God’s religion; establishing the Nahda [renaissance] of the Ummah [Muslim nation] on the basis of Islam.”
Khomeini and Al-Shater have spelled out the mission of Islam in unequivocal and precise terms. Al-Shater is heavily favored to win the Egyptian presidency and then, unless Egypt’s army prevents him from assuming power, Obama and Clinton’s democracy mirage will have disappeared.
