WOMAN BRINGS DOWN CIA DIRECTOR

By now everyone who doesn’t live under a rock knows that Gen. David Petraeus, former commander of our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, resigned as Director of the CIA over an affair with his biographer. What started out as an FBI investigation of harassing phone calls turned into an investigation of a possible breach of Petraeus’ emails that uncovered his extramarital affair with journalist Paula Broadwell, who like the general is also a graduate of West Point.

In my criminal justice classes I always taught my students that cops are more likely be brought down by wine, women and guns - not necessarily in that order – than by getting injured or killed in the line of duty.

Apparently that also applies to the highest ranking members of our armed forces. In addition to Petraeus’ infidelity, several other generals are now under investigation or about to be court martialed for adultery and for having verboten sexual relations with subordinates.
