Eight people have been indicted by a federal grand jury relating to the smuggling of drugs into the California State Prison at Calipatria. One of them was a prison drug counselor.
Angela Carr, the drug counselor, is accused of smuggling meth, heroine and weed into the prison on at least five different occasions. She is also accused of smuggling in cell phones. She was arrested in August of last year while attempting to smuggle in a full pound of speed, four pounds of pot, 4 ounces of heroin, and 39 cell phones.
Four current or former prisoners were also indicted, along with three women who had sexual relationships with the prisoners.
The contraband was apparently stashed inside packages of things like potato chips, cookies and coffee cans which it would seem that Ms. Carr was allowed to bring in with little if any scrutiny. Sounds like a breakdown in basic security procedures to me.
