KNOWING WHERE TO TAP

A container ship’s engine failed and none of the ship’s engineers and crew could fix it. Then they brought in a ship engine maintenance worker with 30 years on the job.

He inspected the engine very carefully, top to bottom. After looking things over, the man reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped something. Instantly, the engine started running again.

Seven days later the ship owners got his bill for 10,000 dollars."

“What the hell!” the owners exclaimed. “You hardly did anything. Send us an itemized bill.”

The reply simply said “Tapping with a hammer - $2. Knowing where to tap - $9,998.”
