VETS BREAK UP RACIST ATTACK AT CEMETERY

By Bob Walsh

It was a lovely morning at the Sebastopol Memorial Lawn Cemetery in northern California on Memorial Day. A group of veterans, in their 60s and 70s, had just finished placed flags along the entrance way to the cemetery when they became aware of a disturbance.

Holly Mae Lewis, 36, was there with a young girl who may have been her daughter. Ms. Lewis apparently became enraged at her inability to locate a particular grave and launched into a physical and verbal attack on a 60 year old woman who just happened to be there. The verbal attack contained racist slurs. Lewis repeatedly punched and kicked the victim.

One of the veterans in his 70s dove in and tackled Lewis, who continued to kick at her victim from the ground. Two other vets assisted and managed to separate Lewis from her victim.

Then one of the vets flagged down a passing cop, but the attacker had already left. However, they got her license tag and the cops arrested Ms. Lewis at her home in Santa Rosa. She is facing assault and hate crime charges and is being held pending a $30,000 bail.
