The principal tenant-lessee of the Ghost Ship Warehouse where 36 people were killed in a fire late last year is currently a guest of the people of Alameda County, facing numerous criminal charges relating to the fire.
Master Tenant Derick Almena and the creative arts director of the firetrap, Max Harris, were both arrested and are facing 46counts of involuntary manslaughter. Almena was nailed in Lake County. Harris, AKA Max Ohr, was arrested in Los Angeles.
As the lease holder Almena was required by the California Fire Code for fire suppression equipment, smoke alarms and similar life safety hardware. None was in fact in place. Almena is also said to have encouraged "creative" arrangement of working space, creating a huge fire load and limited egress.
Almena and his wife were NOT present the night of the fire. I guess they are not morons.
