It was 73 years ago that the Allies invaded Fortress Europa, in a very risky and high-cost effort to overthrow the Nazi regime. That effort was of course eventually successful. Somebody or other famous (I think it was George Patton) once remarked that, when compared to warfare, all other efforts of human endeavor pale by comparison. I suspect he was right.
