As of yesterday the following items are being presented as fact by the broadcast media. They may even be accurate.
1) The five surviving boat crew members were all drug and alcohol tested. They came back clean.
2) About 45 minutes before the fire a crew member went to the galley to check that the stove was stone cold. It was.
3) Coast Guard regulations required that a night fire watch be posted on a vessel of this time with this many passengers aboard. That was not done. This could be a significant negligence issue and could negate the attempts of the owner and insurer to avoid liability.
4) None of the crew members has said that they heard a smoke or fire alarm prior to the fire being discovered.
