Loan Guan, 35, the mom of seven-year-old Ryan Kaji - YouTube's $22 million star - was once jailed after shoplifting $93-worth of clothes from a JC Penney store in Houston.

Loan and Shion Guan, 31, of Cypress, Texas, are the parents of Ryan Haruto Guan, better known as Ryan Kaji.

On June 28, 2002, Loan - then known as Kieu-Loan Thi Nguyen - was arrested for stealing clothing at JC Penney's in Almeda Mall, Houston. The University of Houston student appeared at Harris County Criminal Court in Houston, and ordered to carry out 40 hours community service.

Loan was sentenced to 60 days in prison on June 6, 2003 for failing to carry out the service. She served 30 days at Harris County Jail in Houston.

In 2009 she joined Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas and met Shion, a civil engineering student who had lived in Japan.

In 2011 the couple had son Ryan. Loan became a high school chemistry teacher and Shion became a structural engineer. The pair married in August 2013.

Loan is credited with starting YouTube channel 'Ryan Toys Review' in March 2015. Soon it was earning the family $1 million a month. The channel's videos have been watched more than 30 billion times, making Ryan YouTube's highest-earning entrepreneur and most-powerful influencer.

The Guans' 'Ryan's World' brand- which includes toothpaste, oranges, television shows and video games - earned the family $22 million last year.

Consumer watchdog Truth in Advertising had filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission claiming the company does not disclose sponsored content
