WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN THE COPS SAY, "TOUGH SHIT."

by Bob Walsh

Mountain House is a very nice, smallish (about 15,000) bedroom community at the east base of the Altamont Pass at the edge of San Joaquin County, California. Other than homes and a satellite campus of Delta College there isn't much there.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office has a staff issue right now, which may or may not be related to a pissing contest that may or may not be going on (it is going on) between the Sheriff and the Board of Supervisors.

One of the Sheriff's recent actions has been to inform the unincorporated town that their police protection is being cut by 75%.

The town has reacted by hiring armed, private security to patrol the streets. I hope it works for them. I am not, as a rule, a fan of privately paid quasi-police. That being said, when the real cops tell you that you are on your own you have to do something.

Election day is coming and if the county supervisors don't provide adequate LE for their constituents they could be voted out. Private police is not the answer.
