Two people were shot dead at a Maryland senior living center early Friday — allegedly by a disgruntled resident who snapped over mistreatment, according to a friend and witness.
Prince George’s County police tweeted that they were called at 9:15 a.m. to an “active scene” at Gateway Village, a church-run affordable rental community for those over age 62.
A nearby elementary school was put on lockdown as officers continued “searching the facility for any additional victims as well as suspects,” the force tweeted.
The lockdown was lifted around 90 minutes later as the force again tweeted, “Scene is now secure … No ongoing threat to [the] community.”

“One male suspect – he is in custody. Two confirmed victims. Both victims are deceased,” the department tweeted, without elaborating on the shooter or his victims.
A resident who only gave a first name, Donald, told WUSA9 at the scene that the shooter was a fellow senior who asked him to call the police as he surrendered after the double slaying.
Donald said he saw his “friend” after he “stuck my head out in the hallway” to see why a fire alarm was blaring.
“I saw the shooter, lying on the hallway with his arms stretched out, and the weapon was [about] six feet in front of him,” he said.
“He told me to let the police know that he was no threat, he’s ready and he’s waiting for them. He knew he was going away — he told me that,” he said, recalling how he relayed the info to cops.
“I know what set him off — the way they treat the seniors in Gateway Village,” insisted Donald, who complained about bathrooms being locked despite so many seniors having bladder issues.
The home, run by National Church Residences, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Maybe he thinks he will get better treatment in the slammer. He may be right.
