Kevin
Steele, 56, was a Correctional Sergeant at New Folsom Prison, aka CSP
Sacramento County before he killed himself in Miller County, Missouri
two weeks back.
Early this
year Sg.t Steele wrote to his warden and the agency secretary alleging
serious misconduct by staff at his facility, including planting of
drugs and falsification of documents. He was a member of the
Investigative Service Unit and had been working in secret with attorneys
in two lawsuits against the department. Another member of that unit,
Valentino Rodriguez, 30, died at his home in West Sacramento a year ago
from a fentanyl overdose which was ruled accidental.
The
FBI is currently investigating possible cover-ups in the deaths of two
inmates at the prison. In one of these incidents an inmate who was
allegedly handcuffed to a chair was stabbed to death.
The
entire Investigative Services Unit at New Folsom, a total of ten
people, was removed from their assignments and are under active
investigation with regards to Officer Rodgiguez's death.
The department has thus far declined comment on the matter.
