State Trooper Adam Gaubert, a 19-year veteran, was fatally shot in Mire’s ambush
A man’s deadly shooting spree in Louisiana left a state trooper and a woman dead, police said.
Matthew Mire, 31, was taken into custody Saturday after a wide-ranging manhunt, the Louisiana State Police said on Saturday at just before 10 p.m.
Louisiana State Police arrested Matthew Mire, who is suspected to be responsible for multiple deadly shootings on Oct. 9, 2021
Mire is suspected of ambushing 19-year veteran State Trooper Adam Gaubert while he sat in his car in Ascension Parish Saturday morning.
“Trooper Gaubert embodied everything we stand for; honor, duty, selfless service, and courage,” a social media post from the state police said.
“In the days ahead, we will mourn his tragic death and honor his service to our department and the citizens of Louisiana.”
That shooting is suspected to be the latest in a string of attacks by Mire since a little after midnight on Friday going into Saturday. The man shot two people in Livingston Parish, before shooting two more in Ascension including Pamela Adair, 37, who was killed, KLFY-TV reported.
Cops believe the suspect then fired at another trooper who tried to pull him over during a pursuit, the station reported.
The trooper was unharmed. After a gunfight and short chase, Mire fled on foot – prompting a massive manhunt.

I am surprised he survived being arrested. That used to be real rare in Louisiana.
It still is. The Louisiana Hwy Patrol is undergoing an investigation by the feds at this time for use of force complaints. It seems that body cameras are malfunctioning during arrests. Louisiana is sort of like Mexico with a Cajun accent and lots of swamp.
