U. S. District Court Judge David Urias is now reviewing
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham's "public health order" banning the
carrying of arms by private citizens in a large chunk of New Mexico. He
did act to extend the temporary hold on her order thru October 11 while
the matter is under further review.
When
questioned by the media the governor admitted that her order would
probably have little or no effect on "gun violence" in and around the
capitol, but that she felt that she had to "do something." It would
have been nice if she could have done something that was both legal and
likely to be effective.
The governor indicated that she intends to extend her temporary order for another 30 days at a minimum.
Both
the Chief of Police and the County Sheriff in Albuquerque have
announced that their agencies will NOT enforce the order. The
enforcement is civil and not criminal.
