The
D. A. has dropped the charges against New York City Council Member Inna
Vernikov. The Republican was carrying her licensed pistol at a
pro-Palestinian rally, where she was present to help Jewish students
"feel safe." The cops didn't charge her, but did take her weapon. It
is against city ordnance to carry a licensed pistol at "sensitive
locations" including protests.
It
should be noted that the cops discovered the pistol did not have a
recoil spring in it, which would have made it effectively a single-shot
pistol that was on top of everything else very uncomfortable to shoot.
That fact that the pistol was not operable would have made it impossible
under the law to successfully prosecute her anyway.
