MORE BUDGET TROUBLE IN SUNNY CALIFORNIA

By Bob Walsh

Sacramento is the capitol city of the formerly great state of California.  The city has just announced that all departments should prepare for a 15% budget cut to eliminate a large budget shortfall.  It is easy to spend OPM (other people's money) but at some point the bill becomes due and the city can not print money nor can they raise taxes like nobody will care, because people will care, and make their large purchases next door if the sale tax gets stupid.  You can only raise "fees" so much and the peasants will revolt.

The state budget is getting "interesting" as well.  Gavin Newsom, the God-Emperor of California, has been "reluctant" to properly fund for Proposition 36, which passed OVERWHELMINGLY in CA back in November.  Newsom hates it because it mandates drug treatment for certain people and throws their ass into jails and prisons if they both refuse treatment and keep committing crimes.  Newsom doesn't believe in personal responsibility for criminal behavior.  He therefore intends to punish the voters for passing a ballot initiative that he did not personally approve of. Even some members of the super-majority Democrat-Socialist party and pushing on him to get with the program.  Whether the push will be effective remains to be seen.

In Los Angeles the City Administrative Officer, Matt Szabo, has said that the city is looking at a shortfall of about $1 billion.  He asserts that the budget that Mayor Karen Bass will propose on April 21 will close that massive gap but will result in difficult decisions being made and will "almost certainly" require staff reductions (layoffs).  The city is looking at an anticipated reduction of $315 million in income via taxes, $100 million plus in liability payouts and $275 million to restore the reserve fund.  They are thus far not talking about cutting back goodies for illegal aliens, known as undocumented democrats during the Harris-Biden administration.
