The Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant.
The California Coastal Commission has finally given the OK for the
Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant to stay open for at least another five
years. The plant supplies about 10% or so of the state's total
electrical power. The bribe that had to be given to the commission was
that PG&E had to purchase and permanently set aside from development
about 4,000 acres of land in the immediate vicinity of the plant.
Since I suspect not that many people want to live right next door to a
nuclear power plant anyway it is probably a reasonable deal.
