CONCEALED WEAPON LICENSE HOLDERS BETRAYED

Despite the Missouri law which guarantees that names of concealed weapon license holders will be kept confidential, state officials gave the entire list to the feds

Any gun control legislation which includes a federal gun registry opens the door to the confiscation of firearms owned by private citizens. The feds now have such a registry of Missouri’s gun owners.

Despite a law that guarantees the names of concealed weapon permit holders in Missouri will be kept confidential, the entire list was twice turned over to federal authorities, Sen. Kurt Schaefer says.

The Republican lawmaker says the Missouri State Highway Patrol asked for and received the list from the state Division of Motor Vehicle and Driver Licensing. It was then sent to the Social Security Administration Office of Inspector General.

“When they turn over the entire list of concealed carry holders in the state of Missouri to the federal government, where is it going?” Schaefer told the Columbia Daily Tribune.

“I want to know who all was involved in this transaction because if this is just some phone call saying give me the list of all concealed carry holders, how did the person at the patrol who fulfilled that request know who was at the other end of the phone?

“How did they know where to send it? How did they know what it was being used for?”

Capt. Tim Hull told the newspaper the lists were “provided to law enforcement for law enforcement investigative purposes.’’

But under Missouri law, the names of concealed weapon permit holders — which are stored in driver’s license records — are confidential.

“Apparently from what I understand, they wanted to match up anyone who had a mental diagnosis or disability with also having a concealed carry license,” Schaefer said. “What I am told is there is no written request for that information.”

He said he intends to ask Missouri State Highway Patrol Col. Ron Replogle for full details of the list handover at a state appropriations committee hearing on the patrol's budget.

Somebody should have their ass handed to them over this. It probably won't happen, but it should.
