Francis Gregory, 69, of West Tisbury, Mass., and an unnamed 76-year old man from California were walking along a remote trail north of Red Bluff, California on Friday when they were robbed by an armed man who shot them both down after taking their stuff. Gregory died. The second victim is still alive in critical condition in the hospital.

Just because you are out in the middle of Buttcrack Nowhere doesn’t mean that nothing bad can happen to you. That bad thing will, as often as not, have four legs and fur, but not always. Bad people like easy targets, no witnesses and no close law enforcement.

Mother Nature is not necessarily your friend.
