FOUND NOT GUILTY EVEN THOUGH SHE CUT A COP’S THROAT

I sometimes wonder about jury verdicts. Jennifer Berube and her husband John Maclean III were arrested in December of 2012 for possession of a stolen credit card. Not exactly the crime of the century.

As they were being booked into the local slammer in Rutland, Vermont Mrs. Berube pulled out a small folding knife she had in an inside jacket pocket that wasn’t detected in the search, creeped up behind the booking officer and put the knife to his throat, cutting him in the process and just missing his jugular. She was promptly beat down by other officers. The whole thing is on video so there isn’t a lot of question about what happened.

She claimed that she had no intention of hurting the officer but just wanted to frighten him so she could escape. The jury bought it, finding her not guilty of attempted murder and also of attempted aggravated assault with serious bodily injury.

EDITOR’S NOTE: This jury merely reflected the ignorance and bias of its members. They were obviously ignorant about the physiology of the throat and must have harbored a bias against cops.
