LASO Deputy Joseph Gilbert Solano died Wednesday, two days after being shot in the head while off duty, standing in line at a fast foot restaurant.
Rhett Nelson, 30, of Utah, is under arrest for the shooting. The shooter has mental health and substance abuse issues. There is no reason to believe that he knew Deputy Nelson or knew he was a cop.
Nelson is under suspicion of numerous armed robberies in San Diego and is suspected of shooting a man standing on the street for no particular reason about an hour before he shot the deputy.
