OLIVER'S LAW OF SPEAKING YOUR MIND - A CLOSED MOUTH GATHERS NO FEET

Mark is correct, but not politically correct. Erin should have stuck to her specialty, the financial news.

Most men might agree - but few of them would say it on national television.

American TV news anchor Mark Haines shocked viewers with a sexist comment about how women don't understand sport.

His co-anchor Erin Burnett suggested that a bad call by a baseball referee did not matter because the situation was handled gracefully by both sides.

Haines replied: 'See, this is why women aren't in charge of sports'.

As production staff could be heard giggling, Burnett sat open mouthed and said: 'Oh my! You know...I think...this is a moment that should be passed over'.

The footage has found its way onto YouTube where incredibly most of the comments support what Haines said.

GBTRU wrote: 'She makes it sound so trivial that a perfect game was thrown, because of a stupid call by the ump.

'She and women like her...have a fair play everybody wins mentality when it comes to sports. This was record breaking...she knows nothing.'

aXmanchi added: 'Truer words have never been said'.

Yanks1335 said: 'Damn straight put her in her place' and jsullivan05 noted: 'This guy was completely right... this is why women aren't in charge of sports, they aren't nearly competitive enough... There is no Live and let Live in sports, it's about winning.'

Among the few dissenting voices was KingOne who said: 'She should have punched him in the face'.

Haines's outburst came on CNBC when he and Burnett were watching footage of a baseball match between the Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Indians in which Detroit's pitcher was denied a 'perfect game' by a bad call from a referee.

Armando Galarraga had stopped every batter getting to base until the last one, who was ruled to have made it even though he was in fact caught out.

The incident has become a major talking point in America, especially as baseball authorities have refused to reverse the decision.

As he watched the footage Haines said: 'It was a perfect game! And the umpire blew the call.’ After the game he admitted he blew it. 'There are financial implications...Come on! Outrageous, outrageous.'

Burnett replied: 'I don't know, I kinda say who cares about the money. The ump admitted to making a mistake, he hugged the pitcher who wasn't mad. Doesn't America need moments of graciousness like that more frequently?'

Haines replied: 'How about a moment when a guy celebrates a perfect game?'

As tension began to mount, Burnett said: 'Hey you know, mistakes happen, but everyone admitted it. I thought it was handled so beautifully that it was a more memorable moment for its failure perhaps than its success, I don't know, maybe a little sentimental.'

Haines paused and said: 'See, this is why women aren't in charge of sports.'

Haines says that another news anchor enjoyed his comment, but Burnett chipped in that they were only interested in what he said because they thought I might punch him.
