Example 1 - I don’t think Gov. Moonbeam will be able to blame this tragic fiasco on San Joaquin County because the local jail is probably overcrowded due to his realignment program. By reducing the bulging state prison population, the governor has simply shifted that burden onto California’s county jails.

A Stockton man is under arrest, right now only for attempted murder, His victim, his 20-year old girlfriend, is unlikely to survive the vicious beating he is alleged to have given her. He had been released from jail fter serving two days of a 100 day parole violation due to overcrowding at the San Joaquin County jail.
Raoul Leyva, 33, is being held against a $2 million bail. He is believed to have attacked the woman 15 days after his early release and left her laying on the floor in her apartment for several days after the beating.
Another unqualified success for realignment. Maybe Jerry Brown now has his own Willie Horton. He will, of course, attempt to switch the blame to San Joaquin County. He may even succeed in doing so. That doesn’t make it true.
_________
Example 2 – A woman driving while hopped up on booze and pot crashes and causes the death of a firefighter, but thanks to AB 109 (the realignment law), she will serve her one-year sentence at home instead of in jail. Where is justice when the killer gets to serve her sentence in the comfort of her home while her victim lies buried six feet underground?

Amie Chick, 25, killed a Los Banos fire fighter in a DUI crash on June 9 of last year. She blew 0.07 on the breathalyzer several hours after the wreck and had weed in her system when she made a left turn in front of Andrew Maloney, 29, who was on his motorcycle at the time. He was killed.
Chick was sentenced to one year on March 16, as a realignment prisoner, for one count of felony vehicular manslaughter. She was supposed to start her sentence on April 23. Under AB 109 she was instead sentenced to home arrest with an ankle monitor.
I think we can now say without question that there is at least one person out there who is a huge fan of realignment.
