When Americans celebrate Memorial Day, do they really know what the significance of this holiday is all about? I doubt it. I suspect that most Americans only have a vague notion of what the veterans who lost their lives in the service of this nation have done for us. I’ll bet that for many Americans, Memorial Day is nothing more than a day off from work for a backyard barbeque or a family reunion with a softball game and picnic in the park. And if Memorial Day stands for nothing more, that’s a damn shame!
TRIBUTE TO OUR VETERANS

Please remember that Memorial Day is not a holiday about being off work or picnics. It is a day to remember those who died serving our country. So in honor of them, keep these things in mind.
It is the VETERAN, not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the VETERAN, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the VETERAN, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble.
It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the VETERAN, not the politician, Who has given us the right to vote.
It is the VETERAN, who salutes the Flag,
It is the VETERAN, who serves under the Flag.
Eternal rest grant them O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. God Bless them all.
