A total of nine officers of the Arlington, Texas police department were sacked due to their reporting traffic stops that never actually occurred. Three additional officers resigned and four are still under investigation. The officers had been suspended back in May when it became apparent that their claimed field activity never in fact occurred. No citations were ever issued from these fictional traffic stops.
It is unclear why so many cops would lie about making traffic stops from which no citations were issued. I am guessing that there was some advantage to them in statistical review. Perhaps they sought to inflate their total number of stops to make it look like, on a percentage basis, they were issuing fewer citations than they actually were. Makes no sense to me, but then again I have never been a street cop.
In any event a bunch of cops are now unemployed, several more may end up in that position, and the Tarrant County D. A. is looking over the matter.

More than likely this had to do with overtime money either from a grant or court overtime. Court dates are assigned for tickets. It doesn't matter if the defendant shows or not, the officer get a minimum of a couple of overtime time hours.
This type of operation was caught in Houston. One cop committed suicide over it.
