ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY

by Bob Walsh

In 1623 the first boat load of goods went from the New Plymouth colony back to England. It consisted of firs and timber.

In 1813 the U. S. won a significant battle in Lake Erie, sinking six British warships and essentially taking control of the lake.

In 1912 an aircraft first achieved 100 mph in level flight.

In 1914 the six day Battle of the Marne ended, with horrendous casualties. It marked the beginning of a rollback of German forces in France during The Great War.
