In 1953 Nikita ( We Will Bury You) Khrushchev, a former mechanic for mining machinery, succeeded Josef Stalin as HMFIC of the Soviet Union.

Also in 1953, John Fitzgerald Kennedy married Jacqueline Bouvier.

I wonder which one got more press.
