FEMALE C/O SERIOUSLY INJURED, THROWN OFF TIER IN GEORGIA

by Bob Walsh

A female Carrol County Correctional Officer (jailer) in Georgia was thrown off a tier by her hair in an attack by a prisoner. She fell twelve feet and landed on her back on a concrete block shower divider partition. She was seriously injured.

The 20-year old jailer, who was not named, is in serious condition with head and back injuries. The prisoner grabbed her by her hair.

The attacker, Patrick O'Neil Gentry, 24, was detained by another prisoner until help arrived. He tried to break up the fight before it went sideways.

The Sheriff said the jailer had been working for two years and was well liked by staff and generally speaking by prisoners.

The situation started when she entered an occupied cell to do a contraband search. (That is considered a serious no-no in my neck of the woods, for obvious reasons.)

I have done many contraband searches. They were planned and sufficiently manned in order to prevent violence and injury. I hope she gets better and they prosecute the inmate.

The inmate who stepped in to help is to be highly commended.

Right Dave, but for his own safety ,he better be moved to another institution, preferably out of state.
