A
study from Europe published yesterday indicates that persons who have a
gene left over from interbreeding with our Neanderthal cousins are at a
much higher risk for Covid-19 death than those without the gene.
This
particular gene is present in about 16% of those people with European
ancestry and about 50% in South Asia. It is completely absent in the
African and East Asian gene pool. The gene is present in 63% of the
population of Bangladesh.
