According
to AP the city manager of Miami, Art Noriega, has suspended Police
Chief Art Acevedo with the intent to terminating him.
Among
other things Acevedo is accused to being very heavy-handed with
demotions and firings. One of the very first things he did when he
moved in was to demote four majors in the department and fire a
high-ranking husband-and-wife team (who may actually have had it coming)
over untruthfulness concerning the crash of a department vehicle.
He
has also openly criticized elected officials and accused them of
meddling in internal affairs investigations. One of the first things he
did was to personally take over direct control of the internal affairs
unit.
I am, however,
confident he will land on his feet. His old homies will probably
welcome him back with open arms. Or maybe not so much.

Can't think of anyone more deserving of being fired.
Acevedo thought he could jokingly call Miamians Cuban Mafia. I used to have a Cuban friend. People didn't call him names or make insinuations about him. I'm pretty sure he is out of jail now or dead. Division leaders in some departments have Rabbis and they could very well have been close to the City Manager. Sometimes it's better to get the lay of the land before shaking things up.
