All hail Emperor Newsom, the woke dictator fiddling with one pointless PC policy at a time while crime-ravaged California burns

If he's right, then America's in for a very nasty shock.
Governor Gavin Newsom had already established himself as the world's most woke political leader, a man so dripping in virtue-signalling PC-crazed drivel that he makes even Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau look like a right-wing nutjob.
But this weekend he excelled himself with a barrage of new bills that cement his reputation as a self-righteous, sanctimonious, hypocritical humbug of gargantuan proportions.
Empowered by his recent recall election win, Newsom fired off a raft of laws that included making it illegal to use gas-powered 'off-road engine engines' including leaf-blowers, lawn mowers and golf carts, ordered schools to teach all students 'ethnic studies', and large toy stores to have gender-neutral sections.
The first will cause huge financial pain to millions of Californians, especially to the 50,000 small businesses it directly effects, for minimal benefit to the environment.
The second has sparked fears of critical race theory now becoming a mandated subject in schools, something that many think will increase racial tension and division rather than heal it.
As for the bill effectively banning gender-specific toys, even the woke-ravaged LA Times slammed it, pointing out that it's not the government's job to tell stores how to market their products.
Ironically, there will be very gender-specific policy when it comes to another of Newsom's new bills in which he mandates schools to offer free menstrual products to female students.
This whole gender-neutral nonsense is a ridiculous waste of time and money.
Girls are perfectly free to go and buy boys' toys if they want, and vice versa.
But as the father of three boys and a girl, let me reaffirm a basic incontrovertible fact: gender-specific toys are gender-specific for a reason, they're based on centuries of research into what the vast majority of boys and girls actually prefer to play with.
The ongoing woke campaign to neutralise all gender language is designed to appease the potential offence of a tiny majority of people, most of whom I suspect don't even care.
We're seeing it everywhere now.
Last week, British Airways ordered its staff to stop using the phrase 'ladies and gentlemen' on their flights to be 'more inclusive'.
What they mean is that it might upset the trans and non-binary lobby who keep demanding gender-neutral language as their 'right'.
But what about MY rights to be called a gentleman if I want to be? Do they count?
Is a woman allowed to be called a lady anymore? What about that right?
Today, it was revealed that Lego is removing 'gender stereotyping' from its toys because supposedly boys fear they will be 'made fun of' if they play with toys marketed for girls.
What a load of snowflake poppycock!
Gavin Newsom's only doing this to promote his woke credentials and, like those other famous California-based woke warriors Meghan and Harry, he loves to preach one thing but do another.
Having mandated all children over 12 to get a covid vaccine shot, he then had to admit that his own 12-year-old daughter remains unvaccinated.
His coronavirus double standard is no surprise given that last year Newsom publicly beseeched Californians to avoid social gatherings and then attended a large birthday dinner party at the elite French Laundry restaurant in Napa for long-time advisor, Jason Kinney.
In October 2020, Newsom sent his four children back to private school while at the same time his administration was stopping hundreds of thousands of other kids from attending their schools.
And the man who mandated face masks for school-related facilities then despatched his two of his kids to a mask-optional summer camp this summer, where photos soon emerged of his son, mask-less and inside.
That the Governor of California is a shameless hypocrite is not entirely new territory.
But Newsom's woke mantra is slowly wrecking a state that I love.
I've lived and worked in California for much of this century and have a home there in Los Angeles.
What drew to me to the place is the same thing that drew most people – great weather, fabulous beaches, and a free carefree spirit that once personified life in the Golden State.
It's the 'safe and warm' place the Mamas and Papas dreamed about, and where where Tony Bennett left his heart.
Now it's a place where surging violent crime means nobody feels safe, raging wildfires are making everywhere far too warm, and most hearts feel thoroughly deflated.
Consider the damning evidence:
California had a 31% jump in homicides in 2020, and there were sharp increases in aggravated assault and shootings too.
LA and San Francisco are the 1st and 5fth worst states in America for retail theft.
Then there's the state's chronic, shocking homeless problem which shows no sign of abating. In 2017, there were officially 135,000 homeless people in California, but by 2021 that figure had shot up to 161,000.
This is the highest rate of homelessness in America, and more than a quarter of the country's entire homeless population resides there.
California also has the second worst unemployment in the U.S. with 7.6%.
And Californians have seen their cost of living surging too, paying way more for housing – the average home price tag of $800,000 is the highest in America – and energy like gas and electricity.
The result of all this is devastating poverty: more than a third of all Californians were deemed to be 'poor' or 'near-poor' in a large study before the pandemic. That percentage will have inevitably increased during the devastating crisis.
Newsom's draconian handing of COVID-19 was lauded at first but is now labelled by his critics as a template in self-harming economic and public health failure. California's schools stayed shut for a lot longer than other states, and the state's vaccine roll-out was comparatively slow.
So, it's little wonder there's been a massive exodus of Californians out of the state to places like Texas, Motana and Idaho, and entrepreneurs led by Elon Musk have taken their entrepreneurial genius and billions elsewhere.
Gavin Newsom didn't win his recall election battle because everyone loves what he's doing.
He won it because the Republicans committed political suicide by putting up a rabble-rousing radio shock-jock political minnow in Larry Elder who proceeded to live down to every expectation.
If Newsom had been faced with a proper opponent, there's a good chance he'd have been sent packing notwithstanding the huge democratic majority in California.
Yet rather than celebrate his good fortune by refocussing on fixing real problems like violent crime, housing and homelessness, Newsom's continued his obsession with irrelevant, needlessly expensive woke policies that make him the darling of the French Laundry crowd but the devil to lower income Californians trying to get back on their feet as the covid pandemic finally begins to ease.
Newsom arrogantly insists California is 'roaring back' under his leadership, but there is zero evidence to support this.
In fact, you could credibly argue that 'roaring backwards' would be a more accurate slogan.
'Go woke, go broke' is a much-used phrase.
Governor Newsom's proving that point at an alarming speed, and the rest of America just has to hope and pray that as Jimmy Carter once warned, what starts in California doesn't unfortunately spread.

Newsom is an arrogant, elitist asshole. He is absolutely convinced that HE knows how to run your life better than you do. That would be semi-tolerable if he really did, but he doesn't. he really doesn't give a shit about the peasants.
