Conservative Republicans threaten to KICK Marjorie Taylor Greene out of their group: GOP members want to purge members of House Freedom Caucus they feel are getting too close to the 'establishment'

Hardline Republicans are reportedly discussing a purge of their House Freedom Caucus group, expelling members they believe have become too cozy with party leaders or who are not doing enough to promote the group's aims.

The Freedom Caucus prides itself on being the most rightwing of the congressional groupings and delights in bomb throwing tactics.

Among the members is Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Trump loyalist who has spread QAnon conspiracy theories, suggested 9/11 was a hoax and accused the Clintons of murder.

None of those were disqualifying issues as she gained prominence within the Freedom Caucus but now she has committed a far greater sin in the eyes of her rightwing associates: Getting too close to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Moves are afoot to oust her, according to Politico.com 

 

But Greene is accused of getting too close to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, leading some caucus members to ask that she be expelled from the group

 

It reported that at least two hardliners have proposed expelling anyone who no longer meet the group's standards.

Among the transgressors floated in the discussions is Greene, who some believe is too closely aligned with McCarthy and too publicly critical of the group at times.

Others have attracted scrutiny for simply being inactive.

But Freedom Caucus Chair Rep. Scott Perry rebuffed the requests. At least for now, as the group grapples with its role since Donald Trump left office and after the bitter recriminations of the long-winded House speaker election. 

'The speaker’s race, there was some difference in opinion. The debt ceiling, there were differences of opinion. And we had to get 80 percent on any major issue that we take positions on,' said Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.), a Freedom Caucus member, referring to the threshold needed for the group to take a unified stance. 

'On some big issues, we have not been able to get there.

'We're at a critical point right now.'

On top of that, Greene is embroiled in an ugly spat with Rep. Lauren Boebert, over their competing resolutions to impeach President Joe Biden.

She called her fellow caucus member a 'little bitch' on Wednesday when the chamber met for votes.

'I have defended her when she's been attacked. She and I have virtually the same voting record. We're both members of the House Freedom Caucus,' Greene said afterwards when asked whether she had used the b-word. 

'We should be natural allies. It shouldn't be easy, but for some reason, she has a great skill and talent for making most people here not like her. And so it's her issue. She needs to work on it.”
