The Democrat-Socialists in the formerly great state of California have long wanted to destroy the firearms business in CA. This year they are (again) trying to do it thru taxation.
The feds already levy an 11% excise tax on guns and ammunition. This tax money goes to various wildlife conservation projects. The state now wants to levy an identical tax to dig up $160 million dollars in order to fun various "firearms safety" programs. Assemblyman Jesse Gabriel, D-Woodland Hills, is pimping the cause this year via AB28. The bill is currently in the suspense file at the Senate Appropriations Committee and will likely be heard in committee this month. It has already passed the assembly. As the bill is a taxation bill it needs a 2/3 vote to pass each house.
The Democrat-Socialists have never seen a tax they don't like, and will be happy to tax firearms and ammunition into oblivion within CA if they can do so.
