Australian swimwear brand Moana Bikini has come under fire for sharing a video of male model Jake Young (pictured) posing in a women's swimsuit
Moana Bikini is, I understand, a well known manufacturer
of swim wear from Australia. It is owned by an "influencer" named
Karina Irby. She hired Jake Young, a somewhat androginous male model to
model one of their one-piece bathing suits. Their tag line is
"Swimwear designed for every BODY."
It
isn't going over so well. Young pointed out that he is not a female
and has never pretended to be a female. He is being advertised in this
campaign as a Moana Babe.
The
new ad is catching a lot of noise, both positive and negative. If you
believe that any publicity is good publicity I am sure Moana Bikini will
profit immensely from this move. It will be interesting to see what
happens a month or two down stream.
