HOUSTON – Authorities in southeast Houston are trying to figure out what led up to a deadly mass shooting outside a nightclub late Sunday night.

Details are limited due to the active nature of the investigation, making it unclear exactly how everything unfolded or what the motives were.

According to Assistant Chief Rodriguez with the Houston Police Department, who shared preliminary details in a press conference, it all started sometime after 11:45 p.m.

A total of 15 people were shot outside the “Bug’s Bar” on Dixie Drive near Mykawa Road and 610, two of whom died.

It’s believed a black sedan drove by and someone inside the vehicle opened fire at the crowd. Half of the people took themselves to the hospital, while others were taken via ambulance.

Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced a 21-year-old woman dead at the scene. Another victim, a 48-year-old man, was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The 15 other victims, which included eight males aged 17 to 52 and seven females aged 14 to 21, were taken to area hospitals. All are expected to survive.

It’s unclear how many people were involved in the shooting, but the assistant chief believes one of them may be a minor.

No additional information has been shared, but authorities are still combing through evidence, interviewing witnesses, and looking at surveillance videos.
