HOUSTON – The Harris County treasurer was arrested on Saturday after being accused of breaking into a vehicle, according to court records.

Carla Wyatt has been charged with burglary of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor. Wyatt is set to make her first court appearance on Friday.

Court documents allege Wyatt broke into the vehicle with the intent to commit theft.

Wyatt has been arrested before. Court records indicate she was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated back in 2023. Prosecutors stated her blood alcohol concentration level was at least .15.

Court documents reveal she violated her bond conditions twice in that case.

The first was in January 2024 when she failed to install an interlock device, according to court documents.

The second was in March 2024, when she blew a .092 reading on the interlock device, the bond condition violation report states.

The charge was dismissed after she completed a pretrial diversion program.

KPRC 2 has reached out to the treasurer’s office for a statement but we have not heard back. We also tried knocking on Dr. Wyatt’s door on Monday, but no one answered the door.

Wyatt appeared on KPRC 2 shortly after getting elected as treasurer.

“My view of success in this particular role is to be a role model for those people who are coming behind me,” Wyatt said at the time.

On the county treasurer website, it states Wyatt is the first African American to be elected in this role.

Wyatt’s term ends in 2027.
