Two students at a major university face expulsion after using a handgun to defend themselves from an intruder in a university owned apartment.

It seems that Gonzaga University, a private institution in Washington State, believes it is morally superior for their students to be robbed, raped and / or murdered than it is for them to have the temerity to defend themselves with an evil, horrible handgun.

On October 24 Erik Fagan and Daniel McIntosh were kicking it in their humble abode when somebody knocked on their door. Fagan opened the door, and a stranger was there, stating that he had just gotten out of jail and asked for $15. Fagan gave him a blanket and some food, but declined to give him money. The man then forced the door and Fagan yelled for McIntosh, who responded with a gun in his hand. The intruder ran and they called the cops, getting a response both from the local constabulary and campus security.

The man was captured, and turned out to be a six-time felon. Campus security then came to the apartment and “confiscated” a shotgun and the handgun used. The handgun was a family heirloom which McIntosh legally possessed and had a license to carry.

A school disciplinary board met on Friday. That board determined that Fagan and McIntosh were guilty of two infractions, possession of the weapons and “putting others in danger” by the “use” of those weapons. The board has yet to determine what penalty, if any, will be extracted. The students have asked for the return of the firearms, which so far has not happened. They have retained an attorney in the matter.
