630 POUNDS OF COCAINE TOURED WITH TEJANO BAND ZINZZERO

Texas Department of Public Safety authorities estimated that the 630 pounds of coke had an estimated value of more than $7.3 million. Hmm, I wonder how close that comes to what the band has earned since its inception in 1998?

McALLEN — Texas investigators say they arrested eight men from Alamo-based Tejano group Zinzzero after seizing more than 630 pounds of cocaine hidden inside their tour bus.

The seizure took place Sunday night at the U.S. Border Patrol station in Brooks County, where Texas Department of Public Safety investigators and Border Patrol agents teamed up to look into the bus and found 250 bricks of cocaine stuffed inside secret compartments, according to a DPS news release.

DPS investigators arrested eight men who were riding in the bus, according to the release. Each was formally charged Monday afternoon at the Brooks County Jail with one count of possession of a controlled substance; each man’s bond was set at $1 million.

Zinzzero has been performing since 1998, but in recent years began recording close to a dozen albums and, most recently, its single “Más y Más” — “More and More.”

Band manager Andres Prado didn’t return calls seeking comment Monday afternoon.
