U.N.’S BAN KI-MOON: ISRAEL’S ATTACKS ON U.N. SCHOOLS, ALONG WITH OTHER BREACHES OF INTERNATIONAL LAW, ‘IS A MORAL OUTRAGE AND A CRIMINAL ACT’

The U.N. Secretary-General and other U.N. officials are obviously laying the groundwork for Israel and its leaders to be charged with War Crimes before the International Court

After an Israeli missile aimed at some militants on a motorcycle Sunday struck in front of a U.N. school sheltering Palestinian civilians, the sixth U.N. facility to be hit, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon made the following statement:

The attack is yet another gross violation of international humanitarian law, which clearly requires protection by both parties of Palestinian civilians, UN staff and UN premises, among other civilian facilities.

United Nations shelters must be safe zones not combat zones. The Israel Defence Forces have been repeatedly informed of the location of these sites.

This attack, along with other breaches of international law, must be swiftly investigated and those responsible held accountable. It is a moral outrage and a criminal act.

'The Secretary-General is profoundly dismayed over the appalling escalation of violence and loss of hundreds of Palestinian civilian lives since the breach of the humanitarian ceasefire on August 1.

The resurgence in fighting has only exacerbated the man-made humanitarian and health crisis wreaking havoc in Gaza. Restoring calm can be achieved through resumption of the ceasefire and negotiations by the parties in Cairo to address the underlying issues.

The Secretary-General repeats his demand to the parties to immediately end the fighting and return to the path of peace. This madness must stop.

Ki-Moon’s rebuke of Hamas for breaking the latest cease-fire was mild in comparison to the invective he flung at Israel. He and other U.N. leaders are obviously laying the groundwork for Israel and its leaders to be charged with War Crimes before the International Court.

As I’ve said before, I’m sure the Israelis regret and are saddened by the loss of civilian lives in Gaza. They are not jumping up and down in the streets with joy over the deaths, unlike what the Palestinians have done whenever Israeli men, women and children have been killed by Palestinian terrorists.

The cold, hard fact is that Hamas started this latest war by firing rocket after rocket at Israel. And Hams broke the 72-hour truce within just two hours. As for the U.N. schools hit, at least two of them contained stored rockets. The others were probably hit by errant missiles, not deliberately. Gaza is a heavily populated strip of land, and even if Hamas were not using civilians as human shields, there would still be heavy civilian casualties, the unfortunate byproduct of urban warfare.

What would the U.N. have Israel do? I suppose those sanctimonious bastards would prefer to have Israel simply ignore those thousands of rockets that have been and are being fired at Israeli civilians.

And the U.S. State Department, trying to appear even-handed, lashed out at Israel for attacking the U.N. school. State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki release the following statement:

The United States is appalled by today's disgraceful shelling outside an UNRWA school in Rafah sheltering some 3,000 displaced persons, in which ten more Palestinian civilians were tragically killed. We once again stress that Israel do more to meet its own standards and avoid civilian casualties.

Someone should remind the State Department that when you try to please everyone, you’ll end up pleasing no one.
