The
California Delta Tunnel Project, now called the Delta Conveyance
Project in an effort to distance itself from it's own history, is still
semi-alive and flopping around like a fish.
The
old plan, favored by Jerry Brown, would have built two massive tunnels
to transport NorCal water to the SoCal so people in LA can have green
lawns and golf courses even though they live in what is technically a
desert.
Governor Gavin
ashcanned that project when it became too big, too expensive and too
stupid. He is now semi-pushing a single, smaller tunnel plan that would
still steal massive amounts of water from NorCal and funnel it to the
voters in L A. It would still cost $16 million, if the proposal comes
in on time and on budget, which it has zero chance of actually doing.
The old project was said to cost about $22 billion, so figure $30
billion, if you are lucky.
Maybe
he is hoping to sneak it in under the radar while the state is still on
fire and trying to build the High Speed Train between North Buttcrack
and South Buttcrack in the central valley.
