After a Wylie teacher showed a controversial political cartoon to hundreds of 8th grade students in an online lesson, Texas Governor Greg Abbott is calling for the teacher to be fired.
The cartoon depicts five drawings of white men kneeling on the necks of black men in the manner of the Minneapolis police officer who kneeled on the neck of George Floyd whose death sparked months of demonstrations, some of which became violent riots.
Two of the five drawings showed the white men as police officers alongside racists like a slave trader, a slave owner and a KKK member.
Parents and police officers were offended by the apparent equivalence of historical racists with modern police officers.
The Wylie district has apologized but has not said whether the teacher will be disciplined or even fired as the Governor wants.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Joe Gamaldi, head of the Houston Police Officers Union and vice president of the Fraternal Order of Police, tweeted the cartoon on Thursday and said: "This is abhorrent and disgusting, and only further widens the gap between police officers and the youth in our community."
Governor Abbot then tweeted: "A teacher in a Texas public school comparing police officers to the KKK is beyond unacceptable. It’s the opposite of what must be taught. The teacher should be fired. I’m asking the Texas Education Agency to investigate and take action."

It is also not even historically accurate. Virtually all Black slaves were sold into slavery by other Blacks who captured them initially.
